“Let me stand in front of you just in case someone is in here.” I state to Zach as we finally reach the door that lead directly into the bunker.
He nods before letting me move in front.
His hands still rested on my hips as he held me upright.
Every step we had taken became harder and harder as I became sick and weaker. I had a terrible fever taking over.
Opening the door it squeaks.
Thankfully, no one was on the other side but that didn’t mean that we were alone. I had a feeling Knox and Abby had come back here at least and the last thing I needed them to do was get their selves hurt.
“Hello?” I call out.
Almost immediately, I hear the scuffle of boots coming towards us.
I tense as Knox turns around the corner with his gun drawn.
His eyes widen as he takes us in. “What the hell.”
“Knox, just let us come in. I need to get medicine now before my fever gets any worse.” I sigh softly just before my legs finally give out forcing Zach to catch me.
“I’m not about to let him in here.” Knox fights me.
“You will let him in here. He’s the one keeping me safe, it’s my home anyway and if I say he’s allowed then he can come in without a problem.” I argue.
He quickly gives in as he places a hand to my forehead. “Jesus Christ, you’re burning up, what happened?”
“She’s got a bad wound on her leg. I think it’s gotten infected.” Zach answers for me.
“I need to get into my room, Knox.” I add.
He nods and without another word he leads Zach through the halls and into my room as he carries me in his arms.
Abby rushes in but stops in her tracks as she sees Zach. She points in our direction. “What’s he doing here?” She questions with a shaky voice.
“He’s helping me, Abby. It’s okay. He isn’t going to touch anyone but me, right?” I ask him and he nods with a slight grin.
He motions to his heart. “Cross my heart, I won’t touch a soul except for the girl in my arms right now.”
Abby nods, looking anything but fooled by his words. After all she knew him far better than I did.
Lying me down on the bed Zach sits next to me and watches as Knox opens the secret door to the medicine closet.
“You are full of hidden surprises, aren’t you, Darling?” He grins facing me.
I nod while closing my eyes in exhaustion.
“You need to keep her awake, Zach.” Abby orders softly. “She’s the only one here that knows how to fix her wound properly.”
His hands move to cup my cheeks and I sigh as I lean into his cool touch. “Open your eyes, Darling, and tell us what we need to do.” He orders.
My eyes flutter open. “You need to clean the wound and start an IV into my arm. After that you need to find the antibiotics and follow the directions on the bottle to inject it into the IV.
